Events in Clifton
Easter Egg Hunt
The Easter Egg Hunt held in Bingham Park on Coral Avenue on the Saturday before Easter began in 1989. Area churches and the Clifton Community Council organized the event to bring more activity to the park and to add another event before the Easter Parade. In the early years, the cafeteria staff of the Kentucky School for the Blind cooked and colored over 2500 REAL eggs that were then hidden and found by neighborhood children. The park was divided into 3 areas for different age children - 1-3, 4-6 and 7-12. Children bring their own Easter baskets. The actual hunt takes just about 3-5 minutes for the children to find all the eggs. In the last few years, the congregation of Clifton Baptist Church has volunteered to conduct the annual Hunt.
Easter Parade
The Frankfort Avenue Business Association held the first Parade in 1993. The parade begins around 11:30 am at Frankfort Ave. and Kennedy Ave. and travels west to Pope St. Residents are encouraged to dress in their Easter best, wear an Easter bonnet, decorate a wagon, build a float, ride a bike, or just join in. There is a Grand Marshal and of course the Easter Bunny. The Boy Scouts lead the parade down Frankfort Ave. along with antique cars, The Shriners, bands, dance teams, police cars, firetrucks, and other neighborhood organizations. Awards are given out after the parade for the most creative floats and participants and best Easter bonnet. The parade is a free, family-friendly event.
